{"id":941,"date":"2004-12-01T22:12:13","date_gmt":"2004-12-01T22:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/2004\/12\/bhopal\/"},"modified":"2004-12-01T22:12:13","modified_gmt":"2004-12-01T22:12:13","slug":"bhopal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/bhopal\/","title":{"rendered":"Bhopal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The BBC aired a disturbing <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/programmes\/bhopal\/4037703.stm\">drama-documentary<\/a> this evening just before the 20th anniversary of the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/world\/south_asia\/4050739.stm\">Bhopal tragedy<\/a>.<br \/>\nAside from people still suffering terribly, and the whole area being unclean, there&#8217;s still a warrant out for the arrest of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/world\/south_asia\/2226152.stm\">Warren Anderson<\/a> (There is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalextradition.com\/india_bi.htm\">extradition treaty<\/a>).<br \/>\nUnion Carbide <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bhopal.com\/ucs.htm\">never accepted responsibility<\/a>.<br \/>\nDow Chemical claim never to have had anything to do with Bhopal, yet they find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dow.com\/commitments\/debates\/bhopal\/index.htm\">this statemen<\/a>t to be necessary.<br \/>\nAmnesty International has a <a href=\"http:\/\/web.amnesty.org\/pages\/ec-bhopal-eng\">different view<\/a> &#8211; they&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/web.amnesty.org\/library\/pdf\/ASA200152004ENGLISH\/$File\/ASA2001504.pdf\">published a substantial report (PDF)<\/a> about the tragedy.<br \/>\n[Update] Mediaguardian <a href=\"http:\/\/media.guardian.co.uk\/overnights\/story\/0,7965,1364692,00.html\">highlights<\/a> the fact that only 2.2 million watched it. So should the Beeb instead have been pandering to the masses by chucking a bunch of people many of whom you&#8217;ve never heard of, into a jungle in Australia where you feed them insects or whatever? Of course not. I pay my licence fee for decent and worthwhile fare like this.
