It&#8217;s that part of the western Highlands that includes Torridon, Gairloch and Ullapool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was based in a small village close(ish) to Gairloch, a part of the world where a car is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I took my drone and various bits of camera gear, with the aim to capture some of the beauty of the region in the late winter. Snow was mostly in the higher parts of the mountainous landscape, while plenty of rain came through the lower parts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t have the full winter skills training that would allow me to get truly into the snowline, so I limited myself to less challenging arenas &#8211; although full kit of boots, wet-weather wear, maps, a compass, a whistle, a medical kit and so-on still need to be carried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video above gives you a flavour of the area, and I was delighted to finally visit a mountain that I&#8217;ve been enraptured by ever since I saw a picture of it many years ago. Note that I absolutely <em>did not<\/em> climb this mountain. That would only be something I&#8217;d feel comfortable doing in the summer months. But I did at least get close to it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/adambowie\/49632015851\/in\/dateposted-family\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/49632015851_e2f6107012.jpg\" alt=\"An Tealloch Mono\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I will visit again in better weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, I can recommend bookshops in both Ullapool (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ullapoolbookshop.co.uk\/\">The Ullapool Bookshop<\/a>) and Gairloch (Hillbillies Bookshop and the adjoining Mountain Coffee Co.).
