{"id":88,"date":"2002-07-08T12:12:04","date_gmt":"2002-07-08T12:12:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/2002\/07\/the_contender\/"},"modified":"2002-07-08T12:12:04","modified_gmt":"2002-07-08T12:12:04","slug":"the_contender","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/blog\/2002\/07\/the_contender\/","title":{"rendered":"The Contender"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spent yesterday afternoon watching <a href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/Title?0208874\">this <\/a>ahead of an enormously predictable <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/hi\/english\/motorsport\/formula_one\/newsid_2111000\/2111390.stm\">British Grand Prix <\/a>and very poor <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/hi\/english\/tennis\/wimbledon\/newsid_2113000\/2113180.stm\">Mens&#8217; Final <\/a>at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wimbledon.org\">Wimbledon<\/a>.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m disappointed with myself that I didn&#8217;t catch this at the cinema.  The film takes a very cynical view of US politics, as Jeff Bridges&#8217; President attempts to make Joan Allen Vice President, while Gary Oldman (who&#8217;s nearly as unrecogniseable here as he is in Hannibal) tries to prevent it.  Lots of subplots going on, in a moderately believable White House.
