I can&#8217;t say why really &#8211; not because I&#8217;d give the plot away, but I simply don&#8217;t know. It&#8217;s set in the months either side of the Berlin wall coming down, and a wonderfully communist mother who goes into a coma, and comes out in a new free world, the reality of which might harm her.<br \/>\nThe lengths her son and his friends go to, to keep her under this disillusion are wonderful. An entertaining film &#8211; if a tad longer than it needed to be. It probably told me more about life in East Germany than I&#8217;d ever have otherwise known (although <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1862076553\">this book<\/a> might be enlightening &#8211; it&#8217;s made the <a href=\"http:\/\/books.guardian.co.uk\/offers\/0,7438,1229142,00.html\">Samual Johnson shortlist<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s apparently very important that this film is Good Bye Lenin, and not Goodbye Lenin.
