{"id":2685,"date":"2010-01-21T22:27:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T22:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/2010\/01\/im_a_photograph\/"},"modified":"2010-01-21T22:27:00","modified_gmt":"2010-01-21T22:27:00","slug":"im_a_photograph","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/im_a_photograph\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m A Photographer &#8211; Not A Terrorist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/adambowie\/4292913133\/\" title=\"Photographer - Not A Terrorist by adambowie, on Flickr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4035\/4292913133_f81c9361d6.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"Photographer - Not A Terrorist\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis weekend there&#8217;s a (hopefully) <a href=\"http:\/\/photographernotaterrorist.org\/\">big demonstration<\/a> of photographers protesting against the vast misuse of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opsi.gov.uk\/Acts\/acts2000\/ukpga_20000011_en_5#pt5-pb2-l1g44\">Section 44 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (2000)<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis essentially allows police to stop and search anyone in a specified area. Since those areas include much of London, that effectively means anybody in the city. Fine. Nobody likes terrorism.<br \/>\nBut in practice that has meant way too many innocent tourists, photographers and others being considered &#8220;suspicious&#8221; just because they have a digital camera.<br \/>\nYou probably have a digital camera about your person now. It&#8217;s built into your phone.<br \/>\nAre you a terrorist? Should you be able to go about your business taking photos of whatsoever you choose?<br \/>\nThis is a free country after all. Or it used to be.<br \/>\nAll over Soho I noticed that posters promoting the demonstration appearing all over the place.
