{"id":2581,"date":"2009-07-16T12:20:28","date_gmt":"2009-07-16T12:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/2009\/07\/new_radio_1_lin\/"},"modified":"2009-07-16T12:20:28","modified_gmt":"2009-07-16T12:20:28","slug":"new_radio_1_lin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/new_radio_1_lin\/","title":{"rendered":"New Radio 1 Line Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/media\/2009\/jul\/16\/bbc-radio-1-jo-whiley-edith-bowman-fearne-cotton-greg-james\">Radio 1 reshuffle<\/a> is interesting, and is obviously a clear response to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/bbctrust\/news\/press_releases\/2009\/younger_audiences.html\">BBC Trust findings<\/a> that Radio 1 was getting too old.<br \/>\nOff to weekends go Jo Whiley and Edith Bowman, as Fearne Cotton and Greg James fill up the gaps.<br \/>\nWith a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/bbctrust\/assets\/files\/pdf\/regulatory_framework\/service_licences\/radio\/2008\/radio1_Apr08.pdf\">remit<\/a> that targets 15-29 year olds, having a significant number of DJs outside that age group makes things harder. Having younger DJs is one way to help this.<br \/>\nThat said, it&#8217;d be very ageist to suggest everyone should be under 30 on Radio 1. The station still has Pete Tong who&#8217;ll be 50 next year, and Tim Westwood is already 51. They&#8217;re specialist, and while the music they play is still relevant to the audience, their ages probably aren&#8217;t relevant. John Peel was still on the station at 65 after all.<br \/>\nOverall, a good move then.<br \/>\nThat said, I really wouldn&#8217;t want to have Fearne Cotton inflicted on my worst enemey, so that should leave lots of opportunity for commercial rivals (or even Ken Bruce on Radio 2) to take advantage&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Radio 1 reshuffle is interesting, and is obviously a clear response to the BBC Trust findings that Radio 1 was getting too old.
