{"id":1740,"date":"2006-12-08T10:01:10","date_gmt":"2006-12-08T10:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/2006\/12\/gambling_sponso\/"},"modified":"2006-12-08T10:01:10","modified_gmt":"2006-12-08T10:01:10","slug":"gambling_sponso","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/gambling_sponso\/","title":{"rendered":"Gambling Sponsors on Football Shirts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see that <a href=\"http:\/\/football.guardian.co.uk\/News_Story\/0,,1967305,00.html\">I&#8217;m not alone<\/a> in thinking that perhaps putting gambling sponsors on football shirts mightn&#8217;t be the smartest idea.<br \/>\nAs <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.adambowie.com\/weblog\/archive\/001848.html\">I mentioned<\/a> a few weeks ago, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Middlesborough and Spurs all feature gambling advertisers on their shirts. I&#8217;m not the only person to notice that gambling appeals enormously to kids, and make the observation that having the sponsors&#8217; names on the child sizes is really not a smart idea.<br \/>\nNow, it seems, the Gambling Commission is investigating the issue, and the shirt sponsorships could be deemed illegal. One possibility might be the removal of logos on kids shirts (although I&#8217;d like to think that any self-respecting club would do that anyway), but let&#8217;s face it, kids watch the players who are their heroes, in the full strip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I see that I&#8217;m not alone in thinking that perhaps putting gambling sponsors on football shirts mightn&#8217;t be the smartest idea.
